How would you make the Internet more Secure Free and Safe?

[–]jimmywales1JIMMY WALES[F] 2 points an hour ago
I’d like to see much more widespread use of encryption. I would like to have a web browser that doesn’t
even support ‘http’ as a protocol, using only ‘https’. A few years ago that was thought to be
impractical because of the cost of encryption. That cost has fallen dramatically, though, so I think
now it’s possible to get there.
And it is the direction we are headed, I believe, as more and more people understand that it’s silly to
go around spewing data when we don’t have to.

Are there changes in the appearance of Auroras in relation to climate change?

[–]Dr_Liz_MacDonald[F,S] 2 points 9 hours ago
Interesting question. The aurora occurs very high up in the atmosphere, basically on the edge of space.
Weather and climate effects tend to occur much lower. So there’s nothing I can think of that would
affect the look of auroras.

[–]Dr_Liz_MacDonald[F,S] 2 points 8 hours ago
Weather occurs less than 10 miles up, and aurora more than 60 miles up!

[–]Universu 2 points 8 hours ago
As reported today MAVEN saw a Martian Aurora, how are Earth’s Auroras different or similar to other
planet’s auroras?

[–]Dr_Liz_MacDonald[F,S] 2 points 8 hours ago
Great question. Several other planets have magnetic fields and atmospheres, thus they have aurora. One
of the members of the Aurorasaurus Scientist Network (a great group of volunteers) wrote a blog post
about this a few months ago. Check it out:

[–]Dr_Liz_MacDonald[F,S] 2 points 8 hours ago
Scientists can compare the aurora seen on other planets to try to learn more about Earth and vice
versa. This helps to test our understanding of the plasma physics at work all around our magnetosphere.
Aurora on Earth has characteristic colors and occurs over a specific range of height due to the density
and species with our upper atmosphere. The magnetic field strength and orientation with respect to the
spin plane also varies significantly at other planets.

I read it for a creative project last year (I got to pick my own book to read) and for the project I
made a house of cards because of the constant theme that society wants peace and constantly wants to be
organized, but only because the higher ups don’t want to deal with the poorer masses, and that its hard
to move up in a society designed to make the rich richer and not help the poor.

What advise can you give to people to live despite all of the unfavorable odds?

What advise can you give to people to live despite all of the unfavorable odds?
Life can be really tough and I have enormous compassion for people who have to struggle and fight
against the odds. I would say that there is always hope no matter how faint and distant it may seem. I
also don’t think there is anything wrong with feeling hopeless the key is not to get stuck in that
feeling – one way or another, nothing lasts forever. Enjoy life as much as possible. You can learn to
appreciate the small simple, yet most important things in life: being together with the people you
love, the feel of warm sunshine on your skin, the taste of food you love, the sound of music. Most
people nowadays are caught up with always looking forward, never being in the moment and I think that
illness and adversity are hard experiences which can also teach you about the beauty of life – the
beauty of the moment. Those of us who get to learn this are lucky in many ways.

What other techniques are an alternative to 3-person IVF/mitochondrial transfer?

[–]Prof_Paul_KnoepflerProf. of Cell Biology|UC-Davis|Stem Cell Biology[F,S] 2 points an hour ago
I’m glad you asked about alternatives. That’s an important element here. The main alternative is
pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. Via this technology, many times (but not always), parents can
screen embryos early on and select those that are most likely not to have mitochondrial disease. This
technology itself isn’t perfect, but it is a viable option for many. Another option is adoption or
using a donor egg (the resulting offspring would only be genetically related to the dad), but
understandably, some folks want to have their own “biological” children. Another option is waiting 5
-10 more years for the needed animal studies to teach us more that we need to learn before using this
in humans.

concept we’re looking for. I won’t be judging all the initial entries myself, there’ll be three teams
of folks to do that: H’wood types, engineers, and TV and film academics. Once they’ve chosen the top

other judges to pick the final five.

So Japan has one of the highest concentrations of people who live over 100. And their secret is small
portions, which is something I am avid for with my clients. Small portions, clean meals, a lot of
veggies & fish… and they keep VERY hydrated with tea & water. And that’s a nutshell of what I do
with my clients. Omega 3s are terrific – you find them in fish, nuts and chia seeds. I try to
incorporate those wherever I can in my clients’ meal plans.

The 1st step to being able to affect real change is to believe that real change is possible. We
need to abandon the doom and gloom mindset and realize that we have within our grasp the capability
to build the future we want. We have the capability to provide the basic needs of every living
thing on this planet. We need to realize that we don’t have to accept the status quo on our planet
– we can change it.

Ha! The Creek of Dawson I auditioned for in North Carolina, where I grew up. I really was such a
small part of that show– but I was also kind of a super fan, so I spent most of that summer afraid
to talk to anyone, and also feeling like the luckiest person in the world. Battle Creek I

[–]Universu 1 point 4 hours ago
Generally, what would happen if a wetland was removed to give way to infrastructure?

[–]Noll_SteinwegResearch Assistant | Alpine Wetland Hydrology[F] 3 points 3 hours ago
You get a shopping mall! When wetlands are filled in to make way for other infrastructure
development (like a highway or parking lot), you loose infrastructure functions the wetland
provided such as pollutant filtration, water storage, and species habitat. Some jurisdictions
require the creation of mitigation wetlands nearby when wetlands are filled in for development.
These new mitigation wetlands may or may not provide similar functions to the filled wetlands.

It depends who’s doing the dealing. It is a grade-schooler? An office co-worker? A boss? I wouldn’t
presume to present myself as a therapist. That said, I think the battle-cry I brought with me to my
final confrontation–Defend the 10-year-old–has applications in all sorts of situations. Don’t let
yourself be humiliated or hurt (if that’s possible). Find allays who can neutralize the malefactor
causing you grief. Easy advice, I know. Acting upon it is a whole lot tougher. Take my case, I
didn’t screw up the courage to confront Cesar until I was 50!
